Lex Verstralen
Born in Muscat, Oman, to a British mother and a Dutch father I grew up moving around a lot, living in Oman, Australia, Russia and Scotland. when I was a teenager i developed an interest in the marine environment and took up Scuba diving as a hobby. In 2020 I completed a bachelors degree in marine science from the Scottish association for marine science. The Scottish aquaculture industry played a big role during this degree and from this I developed an interest in fisheries. After graduating I spent 2 years working underwater as a scuba diving instructor in the Philippines, Jamaica Mexico and Croatia learning more about the marine environment and trying to teach others. about it while being immersed in it. During this time I started to get involved in projects in the emerging Swiss aquaculture sector, helping improve environmental efficiency in Caviar production.
I am hugely passionate about keeping our oceans clean healthy and unexploited but recognise the increasing demand for food security as the earths population grows. My focus is on how we can make global fishing more sustainable and environmentally efficient.
